Compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind. ~ Albert Schweitzer, Nobel Peace Laureate
About This Project
Gemi /ge mē/ (ship in Turkish, and champions in Latin) is an organization built on the consensus of a software developer,
a biologist and a vet concerned about animal welfare in rural and urban areas. It began as a response to how we can improve the situation with up-to-date technologies.
The concern is visible; we live in mutuality, often without realizing the needs of living creatures every day. While all are under nature’s ownership, many are under our responsibility to cherish. It’s unfortunate, that such awareness may be lacking in certain (parts of) societies where animals need even more support.
Our champion crew-members Mini, Mira and Dada
This is bugging us like anyone aware of their surroundings. We’ve adopted animals and tried finding new homes for more, felt their pain. We think there’s an immediate need for better tools. Our experience and research have brought us to this:
“An urgent need for modern, free* communication networks for problem solvers in this domain”
That’s why we are working on Gemi, a dedicated, open source social networking platform tailored for animal welfare efforts. Social media
can be an effective tool to ignite crowd-activism with apps connecting people and parties involved. Our mission is to enable and encourage participation in crowd-activism efforts for animal welfare, by providing a tool-set to the community.
Join the initiative, help keep the society notified and let’s bring out the activist inside each and everyone of us!
